Prairie Planting Plan B - NEXT Wednesday, May 16

It looks like Mother Nature is working in our favor for the next week or so, so Willowwind friends are planning to proceed with prairie planting next Wednesday, May 16th from 2:00 - 3:00. We will work outside to bring our prairie to life. Please be sure your child wears appropriate clothing that can get dirty as we plant our seeds. Dressing in layers may also be a good idea to help with the changing temperatures throughout the day.

If your child is in ASP, we ask that they bring an extra change of clothes AND shoes to wear after school to ensure that mud from our planting afternoon does not travel inside.

For those friends that are going home at 3:15, we ask that families do not go back into the building to help minimize the traffic of dirty footprints. Beginning at 2:00, students will spend the rest of the school day outside. Remind your child that if they have to go in to the building at any time in the afternoon we are asking them to remove their shoes as they use the Recess Door on the north side of the building.

To end our prairie planting celebration students will enjoy a all-natural fruit popsicle. We're looking forward to a fun afternoon!

Kids' Rag Orders Due THIS Friday, May 11

As the end of the year approaches it is time to think about ordering this year's Kids' Rag. The Kids' Rag is Willowwind's take on the traditional yearbook. The Kids' Rag is put together completely by the students. It contains pictures from throughout the year, pages devoted to each classroom, and event summaries. In addition to classroom pages there is a page devoted to each student where you find their picture, a bio about their year, poetry, and a handwriting sample. The Wolves have been working hard compiling the pages. This is a special keepsake to help your family memorialize your child's Kindergarten year.

Below is a link for the Kids' Rag order form. You can also find a link on the right side bar of the
Welcome page. The Kids' Rag price is $18.00. This price will cover printing costs. Each page is printed in color! Please note: the ordering deadline is THIS FRIDAY, MAY 11TH by 4:00pm. There is a grey envelope at the Front Desk where you can drop off your order form and payment.

Food Drive, Reminders, & a Rain Check

Hello Friends!

Three quick message to come your way in the heart of busy, AND FUN, week!

1) Food Drive
In honor of Willowwind's birthday the students are in a giving mood. Thanks to our Burrowing Owl friends. we are hosting a week long food drive.
Check out this message from the Owl class.
The Burrowing Owl class focused on learning about Iowa City this year. We learned about some of the ways people in our own community, as well as others, become activists to assist those in need. One way is to establish food pantries for those who need assistance feeding their families. We talked about the fact that children are not too young to help and decided that we wanted to collect food for the River Community Church food pantry. Between May 1 and May 7 families are invited to bring in food for a spaghetti dinner. This would include spaghetti pasta, spaghetti sauce, canned fruit, and canned vegetables. If you choose to participate, please leave the the food in the boxes you find in the front entry to the school. Thanks for your support. ~ The Burrowing Owl Class

2) Reminders
Our Music Spring Concert is TOMORROW at 2:30. Students will stay in the classroom until the concert begins.
Your child may bring an extra set of clothes if they would like to change before the concert.

Tomorrow is the last day you can buy a meal from the Wolf Diner for Friday's VIP Day.
Wolves will be selling before and after school until 2:30.

3) Rain Check
Our prairie planting site was too wet to plant today. The Cottontails were so understanding in seeing that Mother Nature often has a mind of her own.
We are hoping to plant early next week when the weather conditions dry out. I will let you know the exact date so students can wear (or bring) appropriate clothing. Some Cottontails opted to leave their change of clothing or extra shoes at Willowwind. That is an option, too, if that works best for your family.

THANK YOU for your flexibility throughout the week. We are having so much fun and are so excited for the next few days to come!

Willowwind's Birthday Week!

Happy 40th birthday, Willowwind!

We are so excited for the busy week Willowwind's birthday brings! Please read through our list of events carefully as your help is needed to make this wonderful week run smoothly.

Wednesday, May 2nd
Prairie Planting Day 1:00 - 3:15
Willowwind friends will partake in the next step of our prairie planning process. From 1:00 - 3:00, we will work outside to bring our prairie to life. Please be sure your child wears appropriate clothing that can get dirty and stained as we plant our seeds and paint our prairie sign.

Beginning at 1:00, students will spend the rest of the school day outside. Remind your child that if they have to go in to the building at any time in the afternoon we are asking them to remove their shoes as they use the Recess Door on the north side of the building.

To end our prairie planting celebration students will enjoy a all-natural fruit popsicle.

At this point, our Prairie Planting Day is going to occur as planned. If Mother Nature has another idea for us we will go with our Plan B. We will not know what Mother Nature has in store for tomorrow afternoon until after school begins tomorrow, so please dress your child as if we are going to dig in the prairie and get dirty.

Thursday, May 3rd
PreK - 6 Music Concert 2:30 - 3:00
Mr. David and our Willowwind friends are excited to bring to you our Spring Music Concert. The Cottontails have been working hard to prepare for this big afternoon. They are often singing and humming their concert songs and even asked if they could put on a concert at Monday's lunch time. It is highly encouraged that you come to see your child, and the rest of the Willowwind student community, perform a variety of songs.

Your child can bring nice clothing to change into. We will change into our "concert" clothes at 1:30 as we prepare to sing and preform.

Students will stay in the classroom after dismissal from 2:00 - 2:20. At 2:20, students will make their way to the GD space where they will sit as a class for the concert. When the concert is complete students will be dismissed to their families where you can make your way back to the classroom to gather belongings to go home. Although it is highly encourage that you attend the concert to cheer on your child, if you are not here your child will go to ASP at 3:00. If your child will not be here for the concert please let David and me know. David's email is davids@willowwind.org.
