Making a Dream Come True

Last week, the Kindergarteners turned their "Acts of Kindness" focus to look to the past for examples of kindness and making differences.  Throughout the week, we discussed and read about Martin Luther King Jr.'s life work and talked about how his dedication to civil rights is a large, worldly example of kindness.  The students were incredibly engaged and interested in learning about his life and his mission.

We listened to part of his speech, dissecting and translating it in to "kid speak".   We also brainstormed ways we could make "Dr. King's Dream Come True"  Are thoughts are compiled below.

We help Dr. King's dream come true when we…
…work together.
…be fair.
…share with others.
…give to others and give to everybody.
…listen to others' words.
…do unto others they way you want to be treated.
…are not bossy.
…help a friend
…are always kind to everybody - our community, teachers, parents, friends, animals, nature, family members - all others.
…when we use respect and show compassion.

In understanding how Dr. King changed the world, we then wrote about ways we could make the world a better place.  We are going to make an impact on this world based on our hopes and dreams below.

…giving my old toys away to other kids.

…being a nice friend.

…making sure everyone loves their family.

…always sharing toys like Legos.

…making sure to not leave a mess for other people.

…helping mommy and daddy with the laundry.

…having compassion of other people.

…making new friends so the world will be a better place.

…being respectful to the world.

…helping people and not push someone.

…not littering and not throwing away too many things.

…being kind to other people.

I'm so proud of our Kinders. They have kind hearts and are developing strong, leadership skills.
